Farm bill update

Congress recessed last week and has returned in session this week. Since the passage of the House Farm Bill, the Senate is looking to draft their own legislation in the coming weeks. Negotiations are expected around E15, the SNAP cost-share with states, and farmer economic assistance funding.

USDA risk management agency announces livestock insurance program enhancements

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Risk Management Agency (RMA) announced a series of updates to improve insurance coverage through the Livestock Risk Protection (LRP), Livestock Gross Margin (LGM), and Dairy Revenue Protection (DRP) insurance programs beginning with the 2027 crop year. These updates were approved by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors.

Wisconsin Jobs and Energy Coalition: Wisconsin’s farmers, union labor and small businesses celebrate Judge’s decision to allow Line 5 relocation construction to move forward

Wisconsin’s ag community, small businesses and labor unions are celebrating Friday’s ruling from Bayfield County Circuit Court Judge John P. Anderson rejecting the request to stay the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources permits allowing for the construction of the Line 5 Relocation on all but four water crossings where additional permits are already well along in the permitting process. The decision is the most recent affirmation the project, which the DNR has said is the most studied in its agency’s history, meets Wisconsin’s strict environmental standards.
